Advancing green shipping in the Caribbean
A green shipping conference in Belize City, Belize (10-11 July) has boosted IMO’s work to support Caribbean countries in decarbonizing their maritime sector. The event gathered more than 80 maritime stakeholders from 18 countries and territories in the Caribbean region to focus on implementing the 2023 IMO Strategy on Reduction of Geenhouse Gas Emissions from Ships (2023 IMO GHG Strategy).
Action plan to boost oil spill response in the Black Sea
Countries bordering the Black Sea have outlined an action plan to strengthen the oil spill response capabilities of the region and better protect the marine environment. Fifteen government officials from Bulgaria, Georgia, Moldova, Romania, Türkiye and Ukraine developed the action plan during a workshop organized by IMO in Bucharest, Romania (10-12 July).
Navigating biofouling management: key training series held in Panama
When ships trade across the ocean, they can introduce invasive aquatic species (IAS) to new marine environments, posing one of the greatest threats to the world’s freshwater, coastal, and marine ecosystems. Panama hosted an intensive training series for biofouling management specialists from Latin America and the Caribbean (8-12 July) to address the issue.
