World Maritime Day 2022
A number of initiatives were part of the World Maritime Day 2022 celebrations:
Innovation Forum: The IMO-UNEP-Norway Innovation Forum was a two-day hybrid (live in person at the IMO Headquarters in London and virtual) global platform aimed at championing innovation to accelerate the transition of the marine sector towards a zero- and low-emission future. It was held on 28 and 29 September 2022
Participation on social media: IMO invited all maritime stakeholders to share information on what technologies they were using or actions they were taking to make shipping greener, by using the hashtag #WorldMaritimeDay and tagging @IMOHQ on social media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn).
Lighted up landmarks: IMO invited to lighting up buildings, bridges, ports, ships, monuments, museums and other emblematic landmarks in blue and green and send the pictures to media@imo.org. The aim of this global initiative was to draw attention to the World Maritime theme and initiate conversations with the wider public. Please see this year's lighted up buildings here.

New technologies for greener shipping
The World Maritime theme for 2022 - 'New technologies for greener shipping' - reflects the need to support a green transition of the maritime sector into a sustainable future, while leaving no one behind. The theme provides an opportunity to focus on the importance of a sustainable maritime sector and the need to build back better and greener in a post pandemic world.
