A National seminar on long-range identification and tracking of ships (LRIT) is being conducted in Jakarta, Indonesia (19-20 Aug), led by IMO’s Javier Yasnikouski and Vijayan Nadarajah – in coordination with the Directorate General of Sea Transportation of the Ministry of Transport Indonesia. More than 50 participants from different national agencies are attending the event with the view to enhancing the use of LRIT for maritime security, safety of navigation, protection of the marine environment and search and rescue of persons in distress at sea.
