A regional workshop “Gulf of Guinea Maritime Security and Law Enforcement” is taking place in Yaoundé, Cameroon (13-16 April) focusing on the implementation of the Code of Conduct concerning the repression of piracy, armed robbery against ships, and illicit maritime activity in West and Central Africa. The workshop brings together officials from the United States, Europe, and Central and West Africa to address maritime crime, international legal frameworks, related criminal justice gaps and capacity building in the Gulf of Guinea region.

IMO consultants Benjamin Jeanne and Phil Heyl are taking part in the event, which has been organized by IMO in conjunction with the U.S. Department of State Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), U.S. Department of Defense Africa Center for Strategic Studies (ACSS) and the U.S. Africa Command (USAFRICOM) and is hosted by the Government of Cameroon.
