Parties to the London Convention and Protocol on the Prevention of Marine Pollution by Dumping of Wastes and Other Matter are in session this week (3-7 November) at IMO HQ, chaired by Mrs. Milburn-Hopwood (Canada). Topics on the agenda include: the development of a strategic plan for the LC/LP, ocean fertilization and other marine geoengineering activities; riverine and sub-sea disposal of tailings and associated wastes from mining operations; and matters related to radioactive wastes, including updating the guidelines on the application of the ‘de minimis’ concept.
