Senior government administrators responsible for the implementation and enforcement of the MARPOL Convention, from 15 Mediterranean region countries, are in Istanbul attending a regional workshop (3-5 November) on ship energy efficiency and technology transfer, focusing on the MARPOL Annex VI regulations on energy efficiency. Theofanis Karayannis was in attendance.
The workshop, hosted by Turkey, has been organized by the Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Centre for the Mediterranean Sea (REMPEC) and participants have been able to attend thanks to IMO’s technical cooperation fund, REMPEC and via financing through a voluntary contribution to REMPEC by the Government of Malta, which has also funded English-French-English interpretation during the workshop.
