IMO’s Murat Korcak has taken part in a national twinning workshop on ballast water management between Turkey and Morocco in Casablanca, Morocco (26-27 November) organized by the Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Centre for the Mediterranean Sea (REMPEC) in close cooperation with the GEF-UNDP-IMO Global Ballast Water Management Programme (GloBallast) and funded through the IMO Integrated Technical Cooperation Programme.

The workshop is the first example of the twinning concept under the GloBallast project, in which a Lead Partnering Country, experienced in the development of national BWM assessments and strategy, assists a country from the region to establish a national task force for the management of ballast water and explains the benefits and importance of adopting a national strategy for a smooth implementation of the Ballast Water Management Convention.
