H.E. Dr. Dalhatu S. Tafida, High Commissioner for Nigeria to the UK and Permanent Representative of Nigeria to IMO, today (18 June) met IMO Secretary-General Sekimizu to deposit instruments of accession to five IMO treaties, including MARPOL Annex VI relating to air pollution requirements and energy efficiency of ships.

The full list of treaties acceded to are as follows: Protocol of 1988 relating to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1974 (SOLAS PROT 1988); Protocol of 1988 relating to the International Convention on Load Lines, 1966 (LL PROT 1988); Protocol of 1997 to amend the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, 1973, as modified by the Protocol of 1978 relating thereto, (MARPOL PROT 1997); Protocol for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Fixed Platforms Located on the Continental Shelf, 1988 (SUA PROT 1988); and Protocol of 2005 to the Convention for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Maritime Navigation (SUA 2005).
