Senior officials from 10 southeast Asian nations have met in Bangkok, Thailand (11-13 November) to review the latest developments regarding implementation of the Ballast Water Management Convention. The regional meeting was held with funding from IMO’s Integrated Technical Cooperation Programme and with the support of the GloBallast Project Coordination Unit. The meeting updated the draft regional ballast water management strategy for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries, which was developed at the first such regional meeting in 2012. The countries taking part were: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam. IMO’s Antoine Blonce, Jose Matheickal and Josephine Uranza attended the meeting, which was also supported by two consultants provided by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore.
