A training exercise aimed at ensuring Nigeria continues its high level of compliance and implementation of the International Ship and Port Facility Security(ISPS) Code is underway in Lagos, Nigeria (29 August – 2 September).

The course, organized in conjunction with the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), is the first of a three-phase training programme based on the outcomes of a needs-assessment mission conducted by IMO in January this year. It is aimed at officials who have a working knowledge of the ISPS Code and port operations, Port Facilities Security Officers (PFSOs) and other NIMASA staff responsible for implementation of the ISPS Code.

The course also aims to provide technical assistance in order to support NIMASA’s existing maritime security programme.
