International Delegate's Day 25 April
International Delegate's Day 25 April 2021
A message from IMO Secretary-General, Mr. Kitack Lim:
"Excellencies, distinguished delegates, ladies, and gentlemen,
I hope my message finds you and your loved ones in good health and that you all continue to stay safe.
Sunday, 25 April marks International Delegate's Day in order to raise awareness of the role of the representatives and delegates of Member States to the United Nations.
Last year marked the first observance of International Delegate's Day (following the adoption of UNGA Re.73/286) at a time when Member States' cooperation, dialogue and collaboration have never been more crucial as the world tried to surmount the monumental challenges occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In order to recover from the impacts of the pandemic, concerted effort is required by all governments, represented by their delegates at various international fora, working together in a spirit of multilateralism and respect for each other and international law.
Within the IMO family, looking back on the past year, I am appreciative of your cooperation and support for our common goals and in particular, the work of this Organization. I must commend you for your tremendous efforts, and the commitment you have demonstrated to make the necessary adjustments, arrangements and decisions during this challenging time. You have shown the true IMO spirit of cooperation to enable us to progress the work of the Organization and work towards our common goals.
I look forward to continuing our collective dialogue, collaboration and partnership, as we strive for a better future while we continue to recognize the crucial role of delegates in fulfilling the aspirations of the United Nations family.
In concluding, I would once again express my deepest appreciation and wish you all a happy International Delegate's Day
