Description: AMSA, with the assistance of the Australian Federal Police (AFP) as necessary, is responsible for the enforcement of environmental standards for ships in the Australian Commonwealth jurisdiction. For incidents in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and within State/NT jurisdiction, AMSA provides assistance as necessary. Those who witness a vessel polluting should report the incident to AMSA or the local port/marine/transport authority. The national 24/7 emergency service is provided by the Australian Search and Rescue (AusSAR) Rescue Coordination Centre.

Description: EPA New South Wales (NSW) was re-established by the NSW Government as an independent authority in February 2012. The old EPA website is at www.epa.nsw.gov.au/index.htm. The EPA and the fire brigade are responsible for chemical spills and should be contacted when an incident occurs. Reports of a pollution incident where the DEC has a direct regulatory role are taken 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In an emergency, call 000 for the NSW Fire Brigade.
