Description: CIQUIME provides information on emergencies and on best practice guidelines to follow in case of emergencies or accidents related to chemical substances. CIQUIME is also responsible for providing support to R&D activities related to the use/application of chemical products; supervising compliance with the legislation (at national, regional and local level); and protecting the environment by cooperating with public and/or private institutions in the improvement of legislation. CIQUIME also assisted with the development of the emergency response guide GRE2004 that was developed by the Department for Transport in Canada (TC), the Department for Transport in the USA (DOT) and the Secretary for Transport and Communications in Mexico (SCT).

Description: CONASQ comprises 22 public and private sector institutions and NGOs, including the Brazilian Ministry of Environment. Its major objectives are institutional liaison and fostering discussion on chemical safety, in order to implement the National Chemical Safety Program (PRONASQ), which comprises activities such as control and inspection in chemical management, reduction of vulnerability to chemical accidents, implementation of international conventions and implementation of the Brazil Chemicals Management profile.

Description: CISPROQUIM is recognized by the National Department of Disasters Prevention and Relief. The center’s function is to give information about MSDS to the community and to co-ordinate via telephone the response with fire-fighters, the Red Cross, toxicology center, highway police and others in an emergency. CISPROQUIM can exchange experiences about emergencies with hazardous substances and has contacts with CIQUIME (Argentina), SETIQ (México), ABIQUIM (Brazil), CHEMTREC (USA) and CANUTEC (Canada). CISPROQUIM and the National Department of Disasters Prevention and Relief are the main centers where calls should be directed.
