IMO Fellowships

IMO, through its Integrated Technical Cooperation Programme and under the auspices of the Technical Cooperation Division, is focusing on advancing maritime education and training through close cooperation with various maritime training institutions that offer access to high-level specialized maritime education.

Through its global programme on capacity-building and training, IMO offers a limited number of fellowships each year to support Government-nominated applicants from developing countries with a view to assisting participants enhance their maritime-related knowledge.

Moreover, through its Women in Maritime programme, IMO supports gender equality and the empowerment of women through gender specific fellowships aiming to enhance the contribution of women as key maritime stakeholders.

The institutions IMO is offering fellowships for, are: 

  • World Maritime University (WMU), Sweden
  • IMO International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI), Malta

Gender-specific fellowships:

  • Courses delivered in partnership with the World Maritime University (WMU), aimed specifically at the upskilling and empowering of women in the maritime sector. 
  • Courses delivered in partnership with the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA), IALA WWA, France
