Black Sea and the Sea of Azov - Guidance on insurance or other financial security certificates
IMO’s Legal Committee (21-25 March) approved a circular on Guidance on the impact of the situation in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov on insurance or other financial security certificates. (LEG.1/Circ.12). This followed the decision of the IMO Council at its Extraordinary Session (C.ES/35) to request IMO Committees to consider ways to enhance the efforts of Member States and observer organizations in supporting affected seafarers and commercial vessels.
FSO SAFER – Contingency Planning Workshops in Yemen
IMO and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Yemen have held a second set of contingency planning workshops to strengthen Yemen's oil spill response capability as part of United Nations-coordinated efforts to address the risk of an oil spill from the FSO SAFER.
Preventing transfer of invasive aquatic species in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden
IMO and States in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden region have begun developing a regional biofouling management strategy and action plan to prevent the transfer of invasive aquatic species. A meeting bringing together government representatives from PERSGA member States* to coordinate efforts in the region was held in Hurghada, Egypt (22-23 March).

Progress on life cycle GHG emissions guidelines and impact assessment
Progress on developing draft lifecycle GHG and carbon intensity guidelines for marine fuels and assessment of impacts of GHG measures has been made by an IMO working group, which met 14-18 March.
Working towards Cameroon’s National Maritime Transport Policy
Cameroon is the latest country to benefit from IMO's work promoting good governance practice in the maritime sector to support sustainable development. A virtual workshop (14-18 March) has provided senior officials from various ministries, departments, agencies and other stakeholders with knowledge on the objectives, development process, content, implementation and updating of a National Maritime Transport Policy (NMTP).
Kenya ratifies fishing vessel safety treaties
Kenya has shown its support for the safety of fishing vessels and their crews by depositing its instrument of ratification to the 2012 Cape Town Agreement and the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Fishing Vessel Personnel (STCW-F).
