Regional training for port State control officers held in Madagascar
The IMO Maritime Security (MARSEC) team is organizing a regional workshop for French-speaking participating countries on Port State Control (PSC) in Toamasina, Madagascar (12-16 September). This is part of various activities under the EU-funded project on "Port Security and Safety of Navigation in Eastern and Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean".
Second cohort of maritime women join leadership programme
The second cohort of future female leaders* have joined the Leadership Accelerator Programme (LEAP) run by Maritime SheEO. IMO is again sponsoring 30 students, under its Women In Maritime programme.

Safety, legal and facilitation aspects of autonomous shipping discussed
Regulating Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) has implications for safety, legal and facilitation instruments under the purview of the international Maritime Organization (IMO). The first session of a joint IMO working group to address common high-priority issues across various instruments was held in September (7-9), in remote session. The session was preceded by an IMO MASS Seminar (5-6 September) which brought together stakeholders to share insights and views.
Marine biosafety alliance gets a new member
The Japan Ship Technology Research Association (JSTRA) is the latest entity to join the Global Industry Alliance (GIA) for Marine Biosafety, a platform for industry collaboration set up under IMO's GloFouling Partnerships project.
IMO-CARES Project gathers pace
The foundation phase of a project to bring stakeholders together from the global north and global south to tackle maritime emissions is moving towards its final stages, following a series of technical workshops across the Caribbean, Africa and the Pacific. IMO Coordinated Actions to Reduce Emissions from Shipping (IMO CARES) will support coordination to accelerate demonstration of green technologies and their deployment globally in a manner that facilitates blue economic growth in developing regions.

Training on measures to prevent loss of containers has been held in Accra, Ghana (5-9 September) for officials from nine west and central African countries.
IMO hosts the first workshop on maritime security by ASEAN Regional Forum
The first of a series of three workshops of the ASEAN Regional Forum Training Series on the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code) has taken place at IMO Headquarters in London (5-9 September). IMO hosted the workshop in partnership with the United States and the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).
