Indonesia optimizes use of LRIT system
A National seminar on long-range identification and tracking of ships (LRIT) is being conducted in Jakarta, Indonesia (19-20 Aug), led by IMO’s Javier Yasnikouski and Vijayan Nadarajah – in coordination with the Directorate General of Sea Transportation of the Ministry of Transport Indonesia. Germany’s new Permanent Representative to IMO
His Excellency Dr. Peter Ammon, recently-appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Court of St. James’s, and Permanent Representative of Germany to IMO, has presented his credentials to Secretary-General Sekimizu (August 18).
ISPS Code workshop held in Singapore
IMO’s Tracy Peverett joined co-hosts Singapore Ministry of Transport and Singapore Maritime Port Authority at a special event from 12-15 August in Singapore to recognize the tenth anniversary of the ISPS Code. The aim of the four-day self-assessment and audit training workshop was to train government officials from the designated authority and port facility security personnel.
Women to the fore at WMU
In a colourful ceremony held during its International Day celebrations (Aug 9th) IMO’s Malmö-based World Maritime University has established a women’s association (WMUWA).
Jewel gets high security
A visit to the cruise ship “Jewel of the Seas” and the St. John’s port facilities to experience IMO maritime security measures first-hand was a highlight of a seminar on surveillance, monitoring and communication systems for maritime security for Caribbean countries, hosted by IMO in Antigua and Barbuda (28 - 31 July).
